The Corvette Grand Sport Pace Car was recently announced for the 2017 Indianapolis 500 season. The new Corvette will lead the race on May 28, which is set to be the 101st running of this famous race. The Indianapolis 500 is often considered the pinnacle of racing, as it includes some of the fastest and most advanced vehicles in the world.
This is the 14th time a Corvette has been named the pace car for the Indy 500, according to Chevy, as well as the 28th time a Chevrolet model has led the pace laps. In fact, the Corvette has been named a pace car more than any other vehicle in the history of the race. The latest Grand Sport model will come with special features and a cool new look for the occasion.
“Chevrolet is proud to once again pace the Indianapolis 500,” said Steve Majoros, marketing director for Cars and Crossovers. “The Corvette Grand Sport’s performance capability and motorsports heritage make it the perfect choice to pace the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”
The 2017 Pace Car will come with a LT1 V8 engine that gets up to 460 horsepower, as well as a dry-sump oiling system and active exhaust. It also has an eight-speed paddle transmission, carbon fiber panels, an electronic limited-slip differential, and Brembo Carbon Ceramic brakes. Plus, the Corvette has a special Indy 500 graphics package.
At Bill Crispin Chevrolet, we couldn’t be happier to see the latest Corvette take part in this time-honored tradition.
